Benefits of Massage & MLD for Navigating Breast Cancer

  • Recently Diagnosed

A breast cancer diagnosis is overwhelming—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Oncology massage and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) can ease stress, anxiety, and depression while helping you reconnect with your body.

These therapies also support your immune system, relieve tension, and help your body prepare for surgery and treatment.

  • In Treatment

Massage and MLD offer gentle, effective support during chemo, radiation, and surgery.

They can ease pain, fatigue, nausea, and neuropathy, while encouraging healing and reducing scar tissue.

Even on the hardest days, this work lightens your body’s load and lowers your risk of lymphedema.

  • Survivorship & MBC

Breast cancer treatment can leave lasting effects, but massage offers ongoing support for healing and relief.

Whether you're managing surgical side effects or everyday aches and stress, each session is tailored for safety and effectiveness.

This work supports your body, your nervous system, and your quality of life — especially for those living with metastatic breast cancer.

Session Pricing & Packages

Healing shouldn’t feel like a luxury — it should feel possible. I offer clear, upfront pricing, along with thoughtful options like gift certificates, discounted packages for ongoing support, and sliding scale availability when needed.

Here, you’ll find details on new client sessions, follow-up visits, and special packages for both short-term recovery and long-term support, as well as sliding scale pricing and gift certificates. If you have questions or need help deciding what’s best, I’m always happy to chat.

  • 30 minutes intake + 40–45 minutes table time*

Your first session begins with conversation. We’ll spend about 30–35 minutes getting to know each other, reviewing your health history, and talking through your current experience. From there, you’ll typically have 40–45 minutes of hands-on bodywork.

The exact balance may vary depending on your needs that day. More discussion may mean less time on the table, but never less attention to your safety and comfort. My goal is always to maximize your table time while making sure you feel heard and supported.

*Intake vs. table time may vary from session to session.

  • 15–20 minutes intake + 55–60 minutes table time*

For returning sessions, we’ll begin with a 15–20 minute check-in to talk through how you’re feeling, what’s shifted since your last visit, and your goals for today. That leaves you with an average of 55–60 minutes of hands-on bodywork.

Some days may call for more conversation, which can shorten table time—but it won’t lessen the care you receive. My priority is always to meet your needs safely and fully, while giving you as much time on the table as possible.

*Intake vs. table time may vary from session to session.

  • For focused, shorter-term needs such as surgical recovery, support during active treatment, or managing acute lymphedema.

    Package terms:

    • Paid in full at the time of purchase; ideally scheduled at the same time.

    • Sessions are designed to be used every 1–3 weeks, depending on goals and availability.

    • Any unused session funds will be applied to my Pay It Forward fund after one year, helping provide care at reduced cost for those who need extra support.

FAQs

What is oncology massage/MLD, and how is it different?

Oncology massage and manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) are specialized therapies designed for individuals affected by cancer or lymphatic system challenges. These techniques are gentle, non-invasive, and focused on enhancing your overall well-being while addressing specific needs like swelling, scar tissue, or fatigue.

>> BLOG POST: Oncology Massage 101

What should I expect during a session?

Sessions are tailored to your needs, blending oncology massage or manual lymphatic drainage techniques. I prioritize your comfort and safety, ensuring every session is a collaborative process. You’re welcome to ask questions or share preferences before and during our time together.

What should I wear or bring to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing. Both massage and manual lymphatic drainage are best done with direct hand to skin contact so, certain areas may need to be uncovered (with appropriate draping for modesty), but I will always accommodate your individual comfort and preferred level of undress.

Why is the intake so important?

The intake helps me understand your unique medical history, goals, and needs. It's essential for ensuring safe and effective care. During our conversation, I can also recommend resources or strategies for your well-being beyond our sessions. Building a relationship with you as a whole person—not just addressing a specific issue—enhances the care I provide.

Do you take insurance?

I do not work directly with insurance providers, but I can provide a detailed receipt or summary of sessions if your plan offers reimbursement. I also accept most FSA/HSA debit cards for payment.

Do you offer discounts or sliding scale pricing?

Cancer can bring financial challenges, and I aim to make my work accessible. Through my "Pay it Forward" fund, I can currently offer up to $50 off for those in need. If you'd like to request a discounted rate, select "Tell me more" under the pricing question on the appointment request form, and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

Should I tip?

I view my work as healthcare and set my prices to reflect my expertise, so tips aren’t expected. However, if you’d like to offer something above and beyond your session fee, any additional gratuity will go into my "Pay it Forward" fund which allows me to offer sliding scale discounts for my clients who may not be in a position to afford my services in full.

Do you sell gift certificates?

Yes, I offer both paper and digital gift certificates for full sessions or custom amounts. Payment can be made by phone or invoice, and certificates are valid for one year from purchase.

You might also consider a virtual consultation or on-demand resource as a gift. These are sometimes more accessible entry points to new clients or those who aren’t local to Buffalo, NY
